I took delivery of my DDV1080HD yesterday and today I have just finished editing a collection of shots that I took at the local lake of swans, geese, ducks and eventually an enlightening sunset.
Firstly the camera is a lot better than I ever expected. I am used to using camcorders in the range of 5,000-25,000 GBP so it was a suprise. Okay so it is not an XDCAM HD by any means but the quality of the footage is more than useable if shot with a level of skill.
One thing to note with this and any camcorder that produces 1280x720 and above; You will need a relatively modern computer to view and edit the footage! RAM is also a good idea.
Viewing the footage on a HDTV with component is great though.
For what it is and for its price range, I give it 4 stars. Battery life is reasonable and with spare batteries only costing about 5 GBP it can keep going. 32GB cards last a while and its really light. However, it only shoots in 30 fps in HD modes and there is no audio input like some cameras in this arena nowadays, but most people won't find that an issue.
Next I'm going to test shooting in a night club with a 150W light. CCD would perform this excellently, but CMOS has trouble with this even in the high end cameras so that should be interesting!
If you are on the fence with this one, then I would say for the price it's worth the money!
Digilife is a wonderful camcorder. i would like to buy one in colour black if any.
