I needed an iPod connector with USB and audio signals (no connectors) only for a low-power transmitter project. My choices were to find the iPod connector and small, flexible 5-conductor shielded cable and make my own, or find a ready-made cable and cut the USB and audio connectors off.
After looking in several stores for a ready-made cable and only finding one for $50, I decided to make my own. I found an iPod connector easy enough (about $14), but the small, flexible 5-conductor shielded cable surprisingly proved much more difficult.
I then came across LightInTheBox.com - and there was a ready made cable for less than half the cost of the connector alone - I purchased three. One I used as is for the stereo. The 2nd I am using for the transmitter project. The 3rd I am keeping for some future use or as a gift.
Be sure to check for compatibility before ordering this item. It works ok on my Ipod Touch, but I can not play movies on my TV. I can connect sound to my amplifier and that is nice, but no video:(
I used the cable to connect to my Ipod when I first received it and it worked fine. Then I connected to the TV and amplifier to see how it worked and after it failed the video test, I went back to the computer. When I plugged into the computer, ITunes did not see the pod. I tried the factory cable and it did not work either. I shut down and restarted several times and neither cable seemed to work. An hour later I tried again and now both cables make the connection.
I am hesitant to use the cable now because I am afraid that I will lose my ITunes connection again. I may try it though, because ITunes did come back (but I don't know why)

Version 3.1.3 (7E18)
