I have been purchasing new phones recently to see what is on offer from China which offers a good performance and feature phone.
The Star N8 phone is pretty good with its 79mb built in memory, though loading up the screen menu fully causes it to say out of memory which must be a flaw in the software somewhere?
Im in the UK and it works fine on UK networks, though!!! you do need to put our GPRS data in manually, which means setting both the connection and services management in the phone which is pretty simple..
The phones responce ( app loading etc) is good, there is no noticiable lag within the phone. However the screen is responsive, but the letter "p" on the keyboard can be a little hard to get as, the screen is slightly overlaped buy the surround, but im getting used to just where to push it.
Some games do not work as this is a bit of an odd OS on the phone so getting the right games will help, I believe its Jm2e or Midi Java that works on the phone.
The phones processor is a dual core 450Mhz processor which is up to the job of the lightweight OS thats installed.
What I did not realise, is that the phones screen menu slides, and removes and replaces it, then do the same action cloasly after and a second menu appears, so you dont need to click and use the left side buttons to scroll through the menu (some times easier than touch).
The phones comes with two batteries, though! you can only charge the phone in the phone, so seems a little pointless without an external charger. you get two 1800 Li batteries that take around 3 hours to charge on my mains-USB. Batter life last me a good day and a half with intensive (ish) use of the Wifi all day and nigh on and off, and playing a game for an hour or so.
The phone comes in all english, which is good as some other phones will comes with some apps such as the internet browser in Japanise.
Some of the phone fuctions can take a little getting used to as they are not logically placed, and the ring tone volume at default will wake the dead.
Ringtones can be replaced easy (allows sending for profile when downloading) text alert cannot ( not as far as I have found)
The phones build quality is good,
The camera is OK (840x480) but as you bought a phone dont expect a camera, and is a handy size for uploading if you are paying for data limits.
Web surfing is quick on the phones own browser, and just slightly slower using the opera browser.
WAP is 9600kbs, Wifi I havent checked but B being 54Mbs, I assume the phone would give you around 16mbs.
Overall
Pro's the phone build quality is good,
The phone is responsive, it does what it says and setting up is not that difficult.
Phone arrived packed well and quickly.

MSN, GetJAR, Snaptu, Facebook, Google, Opera, Ebuddy.
Better battery life than the Iphone (from apple)
Con's Battery charging for the spare has to be in the phone.
No uk power adapter supplied (supported adapter for US and Eur)
Camera a little poor.
Due to SIm update it can overwrite Providers dialin settings - like voicemail.
Side notes : Phone may not be recognised on many sites and some java apps can be a little tricky to install or fail or part load.
