I say backward because when the holes were punched for the camera and home button, they put the punch through from the outside in. This caused a bend toward the screen, and when applying to the screen, very large air-spaces cannot be smoothed out.
It is quite a significant problem.
Luckily we have cases which cover both the camera and the home button, so it will not be an issue.
Update: to solve this issue, we cut the tops and bottoms off the protectors, leaving a rectangle which we measured to fit inside our iPod case. This bypassed the problem of the bad hole cuts. The cases were 3-part full-wrapping cases.
