The glass is 14 cm tall and on the stand is 16 cm tall. This is a neat oddity, but I was a little disappointed that it only lasts for 15 seconds. Would have been really cool if it would have lasted for 60 seconds or an hour like a standard "hourglass" timer so that I could have used it with some of my board games that have timers. There is a magnet in the wooden stand that causes the iron filings to make sort of a mossy looking mound as they fall. Overall, for the price I paid its neat, but not very functional as a timer.
