I did a lot of research about outdoor IP cameras and this one seemed the best value. After getting one and setting it up, I was very pleased and ordered two more. Product came in a timely manner and setup wasn't too complicated (I ended up using a PC which was fairly straightforward after attempting to do so on my Mac). I love being able to rotate the camera position and the picture quality is solid. For the money, this is a great buy compared to the $400+ competitors out there.
So what was the problem with the Mac? Totally not possible on Mac? What about running Parallels/Windows? Any help greatly appreciated.

Outstanding. I set it up with the 'puter and the router inside the home. Took it outside, powered up...logged in...perfect! Can't beat the price for the performance.

I put this at the lake house up on a pole about 23 feet in the air. I ran cat 5 since I was going to have to run power to it as well and I did not think the wireless would give me the signal I wanted.
I even got a free android app (IP Cam viewer Basic) to work. I had to use 7Links PX3515 to get the camera to work. Be sure to use a login that is operator if you want to use the PTZ. The Presets are nice.
There was a feature in IP Cam Viewer that scanned for the camera till it found an image. I was scanning within my local network to set it up on my phone. Then used the free DNS service in my phone.
The scan speed is much faster than my older Toshiba that died. Overall, I am really impressed with this camera. When I need another I will be sure to get one from Light in the Box.

I just received the Wanscam. The delivery time was as promised. The product rocks! For the €136,93 the product is superb! I did not only checked it at night to see the infrared and did not check the sound but as soon as i try it i will write donw the review. The construction looks pretty good, the software of the camera (from the browser) is quite good and the quality is perfect for that money! Also with the 3X zoom you can see things better for longer distances. I personally recommend it and probably i will buy 2 more .
Hi Lazaros T. Are you from Greece? I want to tell me if you paid the customer service for the product. Thanks n.gameras

Good product but the cables might be at least 2,5 meters.

The unit I ordered arrived very promptly (to the UK), it was easy to set up, I didn’t bother using the setup CD, just set a static IP on a PC and communicated with the default IP of the camera.
Setting up WiFi was a simple task, all the necessary encryption methods were there, I used WPA2 AES. However at home where devices are in a fixed location I tend to use a wired connection if possible, and the camera also supports a 10/100 Mbps wired connection. So I set up wired, disabled WiFi, and set up a reserved IP address and port forwarding in my router. No problems at all with any of that.
Unfortunately the camera must have been shaken a bit too much in transit to the UK and the focus was very bad, too bad to be used. I had the option of rejecting the camera and requesting a replacement, but I decided to fix the issue myself. Since this involved opening up the camera it did of course void the warranty. I made the necessary adjustment and once focused the image was quite excellent for a 640*480 camera.
When fitted outside the house above my front door it looks pretty good, a lot like an overhead lamp so not too noticeable. The IR LEDs in two banks on either side of the lens are partly in the visible range, so glow a dim red in the dark. This is fine, and again isn’t too noticeable.
The image output in all lighting conditions is very good, at night with the IR LEDs operating there isn’t too much noise, a lot less even than cameras I have that cost 2-3 times the price. The frame rate is also excellent, most cameras will reduce the frame rate as light levels get darker but this one seems pretty much unaffected. I also have a couple of 60W visible PIR spotlights at the front of the house, when these turn on the camera reacts very quickly, other cameras would suffer for several seconds as they adjust to compensate for a sudden change of light level.
The IR illumination is just about right in my opinion. It will clearly cover a distance on 10M or so, but will not white-out at shorter distances. I have another IR camera that will lose detail at short distance and anyone in the frame at a distance of 1-2 metres will appear as a white silhouette. This Wanscam camera does not suffer from that problem at all.
Pan and tilt is good, over the local LAN it is responsive and easy to control, the zoom can be a little fiddly and I’m not sure that zoom is covered by the 16 preset positions. Over the Internet control of position can be a little more difficult, but certainly not impossible. If like me people use motion detection software with the camera (I monitor five different cameras, mostly Axis), then the use of at least one preset position will be necessary, especially if motion detection masks have been set up. The repeatability of the presets has been faultless so far, with the camera always returning to the exact same position, and not something simply close to it.
So, all-in-all, an excellent buy.
"So I set up wired, disabled WiFi, and set up a reserved IP address and port forwarding in my router."- thats the bit i,m struggling with, cant get camera to wirelessly communicate with router, and cant set up a internet address so i can access remotely :-(

Hi Andy Taylor, how did you focus the camera? Is there a focus ring or something? Mine too is out of focus. Many thanks if you can help.

I want to order one too but did you have to pay import tax when it was delivered by the courier? I also live in UK. By the way your feedback is impressive thank you. Regards - Linda

Hi Andy, I think mine could do with a focus trim, but don't know if the lens turns to do this, I see you have been asked this same question by Mark, so can you let us all know how this is done please? I'm very impressed with mine, in bright conditions the lens is fine, depth of field gets shorter as light fails, and that's when a focus tweek will maybe improve the image. Regards Stuart

Ref import tax, yes FEDEX charged tax, I think it was £30 approx, it still made mine a good buy. Stuart
